Solar and Roofing Advisor
The top solar panels for Hollywood homes in 2026 are N-type panels from Qcells, REC and Maxeon, rated 22.5% to 24% efficient. Because Hollywood is on LADWP, which still credits solar at the retail rate, and many streets sit in historic or hillside zones, the right panel depends on your roof as much as the brand.

For most Hollywood homes, Qcells Q.TRON offers the best value at up to 22.5% efficiency with a 25-year warranty. REC handles heat best, and Maxeon 7 leads on efficiency for very small roofs.
Hollywood roofs are not one-size-fits-all. A Spanish-style bungalow in Spaulding Square, a hillside home above Franklin Avenue and a flat-roof duplex off Sunset all face different rules, sun angles and space limits. The panel that works best on one can be the wrong choice on another.
This guide compares the top solar panels for Hollywood homes in 2026 using manufacturer specs, then explains the local factors that change the answer: LADWP's net metering, historic district review, hillside fire access and tile or flat roofs. By the end, you will know which panel fits your roof and how many you need.
The strongest options this year are N-type panels rated 22.5% to 24% efficient with at least 25 years of warranty coverage. Qcells offers the best overall value, REC leads on heat tolerance, and Maxeon leads on efficiency for very small roofs.
| Panel | Power | Efficiency | Temp. coefficient | Warranty | Made in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Figures come from each manufacturer's current datasheet or product page. For a deeper spec-by-spec breakdown, see our full guide to the best solar panels in 2026.
The Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ runs 420 to 440 watts at up to 22.5% efficiency, with a -0.29%/K temperature coefficient and a 25-year product and performance warranty. It is all-black, which suits Hollywood's darker roofs, and it is built in Georgia. For most Hollywood homes, it delivers the best balance of output, looks and price. Qcells began producing solar cells at its new Cartersville, Georgia plant in June 2026, part of about 8.6 GW of Georgia manufacturing capacity, so more of each panel's supply chain is now domestic.
REC's Alpha Pure-RX reaches 450 to 470 watts and up to 22.6% efficiency, with the best heat rating in this group at -0.24%/°C. REC guarantees more than 92% output in year 25. It is a strong fit for hillside homes with south-facing roofs that bake in summer.
Maxeon 7 leads on efficiency at up to 24.1% and offers a 40-year warranty in eligible markets. It costs more, and U.S. availability varies by installer. It makes the most sense when roof space is the hard limit, such as a small bungalow roof with fire setbacks on every side.
Silfab's Prime line is made in the USA, reaches up to 22.6% efficiency and carries a 30-year performance warranty. Canadian Solar's TOPHiKu6 is a budget option at up to 22.5% efficiency, but its product warranty is only 12 years, the shortest here.
Panasonic exited the solar and battery business in April 2025. It has said it will keep honoring existing warranties, so current owners are covered, but new Hollywood installs should choose an active manufacturer.
The panel list above applies across Los Angeles. Four local factors decide which one fits your Hollywood home.
Hollywood sits inside the City of Los Angeles, so LADWP is your utility, not SCE. LADWP is not part of the state's NEM 3.0 rules and still credits solar exports at the retail rate. Summer 2026 residential rates run from about 26 to 41 cents per kWh depending on tier. That means sizing a system to cover close to 100% of your annual use usually makes sense here. Our Hollywood solar installation page covers LADWP's local programs.
Hollywood includes several Historic Preservation Overlay Zones, including Whitley Heights, Spaulding Square, Melrose Hill, Hollywood Grove and Sunset Square. In an HPOZ, exterior changes go through Los Angeles City Planning's historic district review before work starts. All-black panels on roof planes that are less visible from the street tend to be the easiest to approve, so plan the layout with review in mind.
LAFD rules for residential rooftop solar require 3-foot clear access pathways and keep panels at least 3 feet below the ridge on most layouts. On the smaller, steeper roofs common in the Hollywood Hills, those setbacks can remove a big share of usable space. That is where higher-wattage panels earn their premium. Many hillside homes also sit in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which adds brush-clearance rules for any ground-mounted system.
Spanish clay tile is common on Hollywood homes from the 1920s and 1930s. It needs tile-specific mounts and careful handling, which adds labor. Flat roofs on newer homes and duplexes use tilted racks, which also help hide panels from the street.
California's SB 379 requires cities and counties to offer automated online permitting for residential solar systems up to 38.4 kW, which covers nearly every Hollywood home. On a standard roof outside a historic district, that can shorten the permit step considerably. HPOZ properties and some hillside lots still need the extra reviews described above, so build that time into your schedule.
A Hollywood home using 800 kWh a month, about 9,600 kWh a year, needs roughly 15 panels at 430 watts, or a 6.5 kW system. That assumes about 1,500 kWh a year per kilowatt of panels on a well-oriented Los Angeles roof. Shaded hillside lots or roofs facing east or west may need one or two more.
If fire setbacks leave room for only 12 panels, switching to higher-wattage panels can close the gap. Our guide to how many solar panels a Los Angeles home needs walks through the full math, and the US Power solar calculator gives a first estimate for your address.
Every US Power consultation starts with a real 12-month bill analysis, so the panel count reflects your summer peaks, not a neighborhood average. CSLB-licensed consultants also check setbacks, HPOZ status and roof condition on site before recommending a panel.
Future plans matter too. An EV, a pool pump or a new ADU can add thousands of kWh a year, so mention any upcoming changes during your consultation. That way the system is sized for the next decade, not just last year's bills.
The 30% federal residential solar tax credit expired on December 31, 2025, so equipment price matters more than it did. US Power offers exclusive factory-direct Qcells pricing, roughly 15-20% below typical market pricing, on American-made panels.
For a sense of scale, EnergySage data puts the California average at about $2.52 per watt before incentives. A typical 8.4 kW system at that rate comes to roughly $21,000, with an average statewide payback of about 7.7 years. LADWP rates are lower than those of SCE or PG&E, but its retail export credit means none of your solar is sold back at the 5 to 8 cents typical under NEM 3.0. Your payback depends mostly on how closely the system matches your use.
Timing also matters. Under current law, California's solar property tax exclusion only covers systems completed before January 1, 2027. On a high-value Hollywood home, keeping solar out of reassessment is worth planning around. Our 2027 property tax deadline guide explains the details.
Because LADWP still pays retail for exported solar, a battery in Hollywood is mostly about backup, not bill savings. Hillside neighborhoods can face long outages during wind events and heat waves, and a battery keeps key circuits running. Compare options in our guide to the best home solar battery in 2026.
Look up your address on the city's HPOZ map before you collect quotes. If you are in a historic district, ask each installer how they will handle design review.
On small or steep roofs, compare how many kilowatts each quote fits after fire setbacks, not just the panel brand.
If you have clay tile, ask how many tile-roof installs the crew has completed and how broken tiles are handled.
Ask every installer for estimated annual production in kWh. That number, not the panel count, tells you what you are paying for.
Panel warranties cover the product and its output. Ask separately how long the installer covers workmanship, roof penetrations and leaks, especially on tile.
South-facing roofs in the Hills get hot in summer. A better temperature coefficient, like REC's -0.24%/°C, keeps more output on the hottest afternoons, when your air conditioning runs hardest.
The best choice in 2026 is an efficient N-type panel from Qcells, REC or Maxeon, and the right one depends on your roof, your district and your setbacks. LADWP's retail net metering makes a well-sized system especially valuable here.
US Power builds every design from your real 12-month bill analysis, prices Qcells panels factory-direct, backs each system with a 25-year comprehensive warranty, and typically installs in 3 to 4 weeks once the design is approved. More than 200 five-star Google reviews come from homeowners across Los Angeles. To see which panel fits your home, book your free 12-month bill analysis.
Great roofs deserve the right panels. Start with your bill.
For most Hollywood homes, Qcells Q.TRON panels offer the best value at up to 22.5% efficiency with a 25-year warranty. REC Alpha Pure-RX handles heat best at -0.24%/°C, and Maxeon 7 leads on efficiency at up to 24.1% for very small roofs. US Power recommends a panel after checking your roof, setbacks and 12 months of bills.
Usually, yes. Whitley Heights, Spaulding Square, Melrose Hill, Hollywood Grove and Sunset Square are Historic Preservation Overlay Zones, where exterior changes go through Los Angeles City Planning review. Low-profile, all-black panels on roof planes less visible from the street are generally easier to approve. Check your address before collecting quotes.
Hollywood is inside the City of Los Angeles, so it is served by LADWP. LADWP is not part of NEM 3.0 and still credits exported solar at the retail rate. That means sizing a system to cover close to 100% of your yearly use usually pays off, and a battery there is mainly for backup power.
A Hollywood home using 800 kWh a month usually needs about 15 panels at 430 watts, or roughly a 6.5 kW system. Shaded hillside lots or east- and west-facing roofs may need one or two more. LAFD fire setbacks can limit space, so higher-wattage panels help on small roofs. US Power sizes each system from 12 months of bills.
Yes. Clay tile roofs need tile-specific mounts, and installers must remove and reset tiles carefully, which adds labor compared to shingle roofs. Ask how many tile installs the crew has completed and how broken tiles are replaced. US Power checks roof condition during the on-site assessment before recommending a layout.
